Since its launch in 1996, TE Connectivity has continued to invest in developing and supporting the HarnWare electrical harness design system. The current version, HarnWare V5.4.5, was launched in April 2009. The next version, HarnWare V6, is now being tested and is due for release in November 2011. During the run-up to the release of HarnWare V6 this ‘What’s New’ topic will outline some key features of ‘What’s Coming’ in the next release along with the features added in recent V5 releases. HarnWare V6:HarnWare V6 has been re-engineered using the latest Microsoft programming technologies. This will, for example, allow a smoother installation experience for our users and the user interface has been improved to give a more modern appearance. For example, the design wizard now includes improved graphics and hyperlinks to relevant product information. HarnWare includes extensive databases of TE Connectivity products and materials. In addition, a number of databases are available for the user to edit and customise for their own particular requirements, for example, multi-core cables, user parts libraries and estimated part weights. A new option in HarnWare V6 enables these databases to be stored on a shared network disc to allow easier distribution and control of updates.Microsoft Windows 7:The work we did adapting HarnWare V5.4 for Microsoft Windows Vista also placed us in a good position with regard to Windows 7. So far we have not had any reported problems. The majority of our users are still using Windows XP but, over the next two years, we expect most HarnWare users will upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, skipping Windows Vista which, for various reasons, was not a popular choice.HarnWare V5.4.5 and V6 can be used with any of the 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Vista and 7. HarnWare V6 introduces support for the 64 bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7 which are starting to become a popular choice for CAD system users.Microsoft Visio 2010:Visio 2010, the latest version of Visio, has a very different user interface compared with all previous versions. This brings Visio into line with the new standards introduced with the 2007 editions of the other Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. HarnWare V5.4.5 has now been thoroughly tested with Visio 2010. However, we have no current plans to support the 64 bit version of Visio because of incompatibilities between it and the 32 bit versions of the other Microsoft Office applications. HarnWare V5.4.5 can be used with Visio 2003, 2007 and 2010 whereas HarnWare V6 can only be used with Visio 2007 or 2010. Any of the standard or professional editions of Visio may be used.Training:We continue to train many new users and to update users of earlier versions of HarnWare. Due to increasing problems with the hardware lock or dongle that was used with earlier versions of HarnWare, we are no longer able to provide support for V4.5 and earlier versions. We strongly urge users of these earlier versions to upgrade and take advantage of our one-day upgrade training course. Please refer to www.harnware.com/Training.asp for further information.Products:Among the new electrical wiring harness products already added into HarnWare V6 is a range of General Purpose Rectangular (GPR) connectors. These complement the TE Connectivity ARINC connectors and provide additional flexibility and improved performance in a smaller mating area compared to circular MIL-Spec connectors. For further details on these connectors please click here. Amplimite D connectors have also been added, to find out more please click here to find out more. HarnWare V6 introduces facilities to draw out-of-round connector planforms and to handle connectors with unstructured part numbers. Into HarnWare V6 have been added TXR88 and TXS88 adaptors to suit Glenair Series 800, 801, 802, 803, 804 and 805 Mighty Mouse connectors and STXR adaptors. TE Connectivity STXR adaptors are a more cost effective and space efficient alternative than Type II adaptors. Also new in HarnWare V6 are D-SCE markers, please click here to find out more and RT-780 orange tube. Please contact us here if you have suggestions for additional product ranges you would like to see in HarnWare.HarnVis:We will be upgrading HarnVis to the latest Microsoft Visual Studio programming language. Also we are considering interfacing HarnVis with a general purpose 3D CAD system in order to provide enhanced capabilities for transferring data to and from 3D CAD systems used for mechanical engineering design.HarnWare V5.4.5:The current release of HarnWare is V5.4.5 which is available as a free upgrade to users of any earlier V5.n version. Some of the key changes introduced in V5.4 (August 2007) and V5.4.5 (April 2009) were:
1. Support was added for Microsoft Windows Vista and 7.
2. A new cable marker text editing and print preview form provides support for proportionally spaced Windows True Type fonts.
3. IGES file export option allows HarnVis 3D geometry to be imported into most other general purpose 3D CAD systems.
4. Improved HarnWare and HarnVis help systems.
5. New TE Connectivity product catalogues.
6. Altitude de-rating option in the wire gauge advice form.
7. Scaled packing, braid and jacket for sub-assemblies are now drawn in cable cross-sections and the method used to enter sub-assembly diameters is improved.
8. Quantities for each harness and an overall kit quantity can now be specified for composite parts lists.
9. Drawing border properties can now be set in the “Set Properties” form and saved to borders in all pages of the current document.
10. TXS adaptors were added into HarnWare and HarnVis.
11. Hexashield adaptors were added into HarnVis and new masters were added to allow 202F2, 202D2, 202D9 and 202G2 boots to be bent in HarnVis.
12. ZHPCG-36 power cable and 55D wire was added.
